I’m not sure there is a more precious commodity in the world than friendship.
I mean, I know I can’t take friends to a store or a real estate agent and make a purchase. But the value a true friend brings to your life….. priceless (not to sound like a cheesy MasterCard ad), but it’s true.
I believe we are designed for relationship. Each person we are connected to will engage differently, serve a different purpose or role in our lives, touch your heart in a different way, but each friendship can bring meaning, love, support and life giving encouragement that will carry you through the seasons of life.
There is no one person that can meet every need for you, and it is unfair to put that expectation on someone. I’m not saying you need a hundred friends, but a few close people that you can be honest, vulnerable and yourself with will make your world a happier and healthier place.
Friendship is an investment, it will take your time, emotions, energy, focus, if you are not giving, sacrificing, prioritizing and listening, how can you expect another person to do the same for you. It’s give and take, there are moments when their needs will rise above yours. But depth, strength and endurance of friendship will be established through the season of life and time if you persist and don’t take offense as you sharpen one another and help shape one another.
We each have gifts and qualities that will bless those around us. So bless some people. Encourage someone. Be a friend.
2020 is not the year anyone expected, it is stretching us, some to feel like they may break. We need our friends, we need to press into our friendship, to help one another.
I am grateful to have such a handful of friendships in my life. Life can throw some curve balls at you and to be able to turn to your friends for support, to shed a tear with you, laugh with you at the craziness of it all, to pray with you. I’m really not sure how I would go without them. My friends are global, not all nearby and getting to hang out regularly, but we make time, we prioritize, we text, send random messages, video call, whatever it takes. Sometimes it’s regular, sometimes it’s months, it doesn’t matter. The depth is already there and if needed are on the other end of the phone or on my doorstep.
Take time to invest in your friendships today, reconnect, spend some time, make a call, send a message, love on those you have made space for in your heart. There’s no time like right now.
Ange xx
